Quite a few people have asked me where to find coupons if they are not getting them straight from the restaurant/ store or their website. There are a few different ways. The easiest would be to just Google what you are looking for. Let’s say I am looking for a coupon for Joann’s fabric. I can google “Joann’s coupons” and come up with, for example, this selection from a blog called Mommy Saves Big. The other option, which has a very wide range of coupons is Retail Me Not. They have codes for online shopping or printable coupons. It’s pretty much the first place I go when I need a coupon and don’t have one. I don’t pay full price if I can afford it, and neither should you!

RetailMeNotWhat coupon site do you used to find savings? Answer below!

Craving BBQ? Once I discovered this place, I could not get enough of it.

First is the ambiance, with a rustic log cabin feel on the outside, you feel like you are eating country. But step inside and there are plenty of TV’s playing music videos, sports, or whatever random things happen to play on their own feed. Second is the food, of course! No trip is complete with an appetizer (or even main course) of Pretzel Bones with 3 different dipping sauces. I guarantee that you will have to order more than one because they go so fast. Other menu items include “make your own burgers” and some locations do have happy hour specials.

Lastly, check out their rewards! Join the “Bones Club” and you can start earning points towards free food as well as free appetizer just for joining. It did not take me long to rack up $20. Plus you can usually get $5-$10 off purchase coupons in the Orlando Sentinel Paper once a month. Check in on Foursquare and get a free appetizer of Kettle Chips. Plus check “Retail Me Not” for printable Smokey savings! Still more fun on Facebook and Twitter. So now you really have no excuse.

Found a new blog!

This past week I was reading in Orlando magazine and just happened across an article about Amy Selleck. She lives in Orlando and has a blog where she helps people shop for close to free. Her site also sports a coupon database and savings that you can search by store.  I have loved what I have read so far and am definitely adding her to my Google Reader. Look for her here: Who Said Nothing In Life Is Free?

Have you found any blogs recently? Post below.

I recently stumbled across a new website that is in Beta but seems to be a really good idea. Feastie is described with it’s mission below and you can get updates sent to your mobile device.

In my past post about Create A Meals, I talked about how our family takes random items and throws them together into a delicious meal, giving them a strange name. This one happened because of a recipe we had planned to make called Mushroom and Onion Quinoa. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to pick Quinoa up at Target, so on the way home, I stopped by Winn-Dixie right by our house. Could not find it.

Upon coming home, my brother (who was in charge of dinner that night), decided to make some changes to the recipe by changing the Quinoa to Orzo, and adding sausage (and his own flair). The result was this yummy concoction!

MOSO (Mushroom, Onion, Sausage, and Orzo)

feeds 7ish

Ingredients

2 packages of sausages or brats, sliced in pieces

1 16oz box orzo

1 32 oz box chicken broth

2 small onions, chopped

2 carrots, shredded

2 small bell peppers, chopped

1 package mushrooms, sliced

1/2 tsp dried Thyme

1/2 cup water

olive oil

salt and pepper, to taste

– Coat a medium saucepan with oil. Add onion and cook until soft. Add sausages and cook until lightly seared.

– Add other vegetables and dry spices and simmer for 2 minutes. Add water and simmer another 2 minutes.

– In the meantime, cook Orzo in the chicken broth in a large saucepan over medium heat until tender and the liquid has reduced a little.

– Once the orzo is done, add vegetables to it and simmer another 5 minutes.

Sorry I don’t have a picture. If anyone tries this, feel free to post your picture to your comments. What do you think?

Shopkick is a new free app for Iphone/ Ipod or Android which gives you rewards for checking in and gives you the ability to look for discounts at participating stores. I am especially looking forward to the ability to use this in Target, although many of the stores listed on the app I never go into. But nevertheless, I am sure it will grow over time and add many more stores to it’s lineup.

Also, don’t forget to LIKE them on Facebook if this app really floats your boat!

The family went to the movies today to see Captain America (more on that later). While we were there, we happened upon a genius idea. The theater used it’s old posters to wrap boxes as presents. This is terrific because you can go to most theaters and obtain free posters (or 2 or 3!). Many times you don’t even have to purchase a movie ticket, just ask at the box office. This theater also added movie film as ribbon, but if that is not readily available to you, I’m sure regular ribbon would do just as well!

What would you use in the place of the film strips? What other found items would you use for wrapping? Post in the comments below!
